Jeune Lune Shuts Down

After 30 years, Minneapolis' Theatre de la Jeune Lune is closing. The board of directors, after a very emotional meeting Saturday, voted to shut down the theatre to fill a $1 million budget gap. Theatre de la Jeune Lune was born in 1978 when Parisians Serrand and Gracieux joined up with Berlovitz, a Minnesotan, after completing studies at the International Theater School of Jacques Lecoq in Paris. In its early years, the group split its time and its performances between France and the United States. The name they took translates as "Theater of the New Moon" and comes from a poem by Bertolt Brecht, reflecting the company's vision to discover the new in the old.
